FTC Notches 2nd Victory In Bogus Text Message Crackdown

Law360, New York (September 17, 2013, 3:20 PM EDT) -- The Federal Trade Commission in Illinois federal court Friday settled with a marketing company that allegedly sent more than 42.5 million unwanted and deceptive text messages to consumers, claiming another victory in its continuing crackdown on spam text messages.

In a stipulated final judgment and order, District Judge Gary Feinerman prohibited Rentbro Inc. and its principals, Daniel Pessin and Jacob Engel, from sending unlawful and deceptive text messages, requiring them to turn over all of their remaining assets and pay the $377,321 they received in connection...
