Miami Wrongly Laid Off Public Worker, Appeals Court Says

Law360, New York (September 18, 2013, 7:21 PM EDT) -- A Florida appeals court on Wednesday upheld a lower court's decision in favor of a Miami public employee who sued the city for wrongful termination and back wages.

A three-judge panel of the Third District Court of Appeal said that the city wrongfully went against a Civil Service Board decision in revoking Jorge Martinez-Esteve's job as a project manager in the buildings department and never notified him of the classification of his job so that he could take steps to avoid his 2009 layoff.
