Valve Maker's Asbestos Suits Each Covered, Judge Rules

Law360, New York (September 18, 2013, 7:18 PM EDT) -- Asbestos injury suits targeting metal valve purveyor The William Powell Co. each trigger coverage under its policies with OneBeacon Insurance Co., an Ohio judge held last week, snubbing the insurer’s claim that the suits stemmed from a single qualifying occurrence.

In a Sept. 12 order, Judge Beth A. Myers of the Hamilton County Court Of Common Pleas turned down OneBeacon’s argument that William Powell’s onetime decision to use asbestos in its products was the only accident giving rise to an avalanche of asbestos-related liabilities.
