U.K. Judge Warns Courts To Restrain Patent Litigation Costs

Law360, New York (November 28, 2003, 12:00 AM EST) -- U.K. courts must restrain excessive or "disproportionate" expenditures in patent litigation, Justice Laddie of the High Court warned Thursday.

Laddie is the country's senior patent court judge.

Court "should not allow parties to conduct the litigation in a bubble where the only considerations are what the parties and their lawyers want. Anyone with experience of litigation knows that clients' (and sometimes their lawyers') horns can become so locked with their opponents that their desire to win blinds them to what is at stake," Laddie wrote....
