GCs Claim Broader Roles Beyond Law Depts., Survey Finds

Law360, New York (September 19, 2013, 3:56 PM EDT) -- Corporate general counsels are staking a bigger claim on business decisions and leadership beyond their legal roles, according to a recently released survey.

The data collected by legal referral network TerraLex found GCs are seeing a shrinking divide between themselves and the rest of their organizations, and their own jobs as stretching well beyond the law.   

"The commerciality of the GC role was a prevailing theme throughout the research, with 90 percent giving broader commercial advice beyond pure legal advice to their companies," the survey states....
