Fla. Court Grants New Trial In $20M RJ Reynolds Case

Law360, Miami (September 25, 2013, 7:58 PM EDT) -- A Florida appeals court granted a new trial Wednesday for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., which claimed it had been unable to present part of its defense in a trial that led to a $20 million award for the widow of a smoker who died of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Florida's Fourth District Court of Appeal found that the trial court erred in striking the cigarette company's statute of repose defense and reversed the judgments against R.J. Reynolds with regard to claims of fraudulent concealment.
