Pa. Couples Challenge Same-Sex Marriage Ban In State Court

Law360, Philadelphia (September 25, 2013, 6:15 PM EDT) -- Twenty-one same-sex couples who received marriage licenses from a Pennsylvania county clerk and subsequently married filed to challenge a state law prohibiting such marriages in state court Wednesday, paralleling a federal court action against the law.

The suit, filed in Commonwealth Court, follows a ruling in the same court earlier this month halting Montgomery County Register of Wills and Orphans' Court Clerk D. Bruce Hanes from issuing the licenses.
