AHA Rips CMS Guidance On 2-Midnight Admission Policy

Law360, New York (September 26, 2013, 7:19 PM EDT) -- The American Hospital Association on Thursday slammed an explanation by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services about a new requirement that inpatient admissions must cross at least two midnights to qualify for reimbursement.

The AHA, which last week urged Medicare to delay the requirement by three months, said the agency's letter Thursday only raised more doubts about the rule and its enforcement and called for its suspension. The policy is scheduled to kick in on Oct. 1.
