450 Ex-Dewey Partners Sued For $1.6M Over Broken Lease

Law360, Los Angeles (September 27, 2013, 6:14 PM EDT) -- A landlord hit 450 former partners of now-defunct Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP with a lawsuit in New York state court Wednesday, claiming a 1989 lease for the firm’s Manhattan office makes the partners personally liable for default on at least $1.6 million in unpaid rent.

The lawsuit, brought by 1301 Properties Owners LP, says the lease was signed with Dewey as the successor-in-interest to Dewey Ballantine Bushby Palmer & Wood, and that it was last amended in 2008 and set to expire in 2020. The lease...
