EU Stepping Up Gazprom Antitrust Probe

Law360, New York (October 3, 2013, 2:47 PM EDT) -- The European Commission's antitrust arm indicated on Thursday that it is preparing to initiate formal legal proceedings against Russian natural gas giant Gazprom OAO after investigating the company's allegedly anti-competitive practices in eastern European gas markets.

European Union Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia reiterated the agency's suspicions that Gazprom has been hindering the free flow of gas across some EU member states and said that the investigation has advanced to the point that the government is preparing formal allegations.
