As SEC Seeks $7M Penalty, Broker Seeks New Trial

Law360, New York (February 21, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Florida broker recently found by a federal jury to have committed civil securities fraud has asked a judge to overturn the verdict or grant a new trial. Meanwhile, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission seeks an order forcing him to pay $6.9 million in disgorgement and penalties.

The SEC filed a motion for application of appropriate remedies, which it determined would be payment of the $6.9 million plus permanent injunctive relief, on Feb. 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida,...
