Scruggs Loses High Court Bid To Nix Corruption Conviction

Law360, Houston (October 7, 2013, 9:23 PM EDT) -- Disgraced anti-tobacco attorney Richard "Dickie" Scruggs lost his bid for exoneration Monday when the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear his challenge to his honest services fraud conviction for allegedly bribing former Mississippi Judge Bobby DeLaughter, which was affirmed by the Fifth Circuit.

Without comment, the high court denied Scruggs’ petition for certiorari in which he sought to overturn his conviction based on the Supreme Court’s 2010 ruling in Skilling v. USA, which narrowed the scope of what constituted honest services fraud.
