Patent Owners Brace For Rising Fees In Europe

Law360, New York (February 21, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Researchers and developers who traditionally thrive on protecting their inventions by securing patents that cover a wide range of details and aspects are girding for the European Patent Office's upcoming fee hike that could make securing intellectual property a far more costly venture.

The fee for each additional claim made in a patent application after the 15th assertion will go up to almost $300 (€200) on April 1, from $67 (€45) for each claim made after the 11th assertion. The European Patent Office's rates will increase...
