EU Lawmakers Loosen E-Cig Regs In Anti-Tobacco Plan

Law360, New York (October 8, 2013, 12:10 PM EDT) -- The European Parliament on Tuesday softened efforts to regulate e-cigarettes so that only those claiming preventative properties would be treated as medicines, pushing forward reform legislation as debate rages in the U.S. over how to classify the increasingly popular products.

The draft law passed by the bloc’s leadership would also ban menthol and fruit flavorings in traditional cigarettes, prohibit the sale of so-called “lipstick packs” containing fewer than 20 cigarettes and impose a number of restrictions on e-cigarettes prohibiting their sale to minors, subjecting the products...
