Unilever, Nestle Face Antitrust Probe Over Ice Cream

Law360, New York (October 9, 2013, 6:36 PM EDT) -- Brazil's antitrust watchdog launched an investigation Monday into allegations that Unilever Brazil Ltda. and Nestle Brazil have struck agreements with retailers that harm competition in the country's ice cream market.

The Administrative Council for Economic Defense, known as CADE, said it had reached initial findings that the companies might have contracts with the operators of cafeterias, snack bars and other small shops barring those business owners from carrying rivals' ice cream or offering them unfair incentives to favor their products.
