States, Consumers Collect $30M In Deceptive Marketing Deal

Law360, New York (October 10, 2013, 5:09 PM EDT) -- Consumers in 47 states and the District of Columbia will share a $30 million payout in a settlement announced Thursday with a company accused of using shady marketing tactics to sign consumers up for discount clubs and membership programs.

Connecticut-based Affinion Group Inc. has entered into separate agreements to resolve allegations it deceived consumers into signing up for its services, hit those consumers with unauthorized charges and then made it unreasonably difficult for some to cancel those services or obtain a refund, according to announcements made...
