Sen. Wants Probe Of Big Pharma Influence On Painkiller Regs

Law360, New York (October 10, 2013, 6:20 PM EDT) -- U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., on Wednesday demanded a probe into federal drug regulators’ relationship with pharmaceutical companies that produce hydrocodone painkillers, amid reports about pay-to-play arrangements in which the companies paid thousands of dollars for opportunities to influence regulatory decisions.

Manchin has been pressuring the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to relabel hydrocodone painkillers as so-called Schedule II controlled substances instead of Schedule III substances, which are easier to obtain.
