Alaska Gov. Names Special Counsel To Probe EPA Raid

Law360, New York (October 11, 2013, 5:22 PM EDT) -- The governor of Alaska on Thursday appointed a special prosecutor to investigate a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency enforcement raid against small-time mineral hunters that has outraged a rural community in the state.

Anchorage-based attorney Brent Cole will serve as special counsel looking into “forceful” tactics used by the EPA and other federal officials in August against placer miners near the town of Chicken suspected of violating the Clean Water Act.
