Braun Yanks Antibiotic Over Life-Threatening Particles

Law360, New York (October 16, 2013, 3:01 PM EDT) -- B. Braun Medical Inc. on Tuesday said it is recalling an antibiotic because of possible contamination with particulates that could cause heart attacks, strokes and other life-threatening conditions, the latest in a string of industrywide manufacturing mishaps involving sterile injectables.

The action by Pennsylvania-based Braun applies to a single lot of cefepime and emerged after company officials discovered "visible organic particulate matter" in a reserve sample of the product, according to a corporate statement.
