WHO Adds Outdoor Air Pollution To Carcinogen List

Law360, New York (October 17, 2013, 1:32 PM EDT) -- The World Health Organization on Thursday officially classified outdoor air pollution as a human carcinogen for the first time, concluding that exposure causes lung cancer and increases the risk of bladder cancer around the globe.

Describing polluted air as the most widespread environmental carcinogen, the WHO's International Agency for Research on Cancer said recent scientific research shows increasing cases of lung cancer in areas with rising levels of particulate matter and air pollution.
