Wash. Targets Food Makers For Anti-GMO Labeling Campaign

Law360, New York (October 17, 2013, 7:33 PM EDT) -- In a lawsuit filed Wednesday, Washington state's attorney general accused a group representing top food and beverage makers of violating campaign finance law in its opposition to a ballot measure that would require genetically modified food to be labeled.

The Grocery Manufacturers Association failed to register as a political committee before it solicited funding for and contributed more than $7 million to the campaign against Initiative 522, according to a complaint brought by Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson in state court.
