UK, Canadian, US Regulators Team Up Against Spoofing

Law360, New York (October 21, 2013, 5:21 PM EDT) -- The U.K.’s telecommunications watchdog said Monday it is joining forces with regulators from Canada and the U.S. to crack down on telemarketers using false phone numbers when making calls to consumers, a practice known as “spoofing.”

Ofcom stated that spoofing is often used by organizations carrying out unsolicited, misleading or fraudulent telemarketing activities and can increase the harm caused to consumers from nuisance calls.
