RICO A Tempting Route For Companies Facing Tort Trickery

Law360, New York (October 22, 2013, 9:59 PM EDT) -- The American Tort Reform Association is calling on companies to wield the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act as a weapon against plaintiffs attorneys who bring fraudulent litigation, a tactic that experts say would be more effective at deterring and remedying fraud than government or bar investigations.

ATRA President Tiger Joyce wrote in an op-ed published in a Pittsburgh newspaper last week that companies frequently targeted by fraudulent allegations are looking to RICO as a way to strike back at the attorneys who file the claims....
