Fed. Circ. Rejects Book Vending Patent Appeal

Law360, Washington (October 22, 2013, 4:21 PM EDT) -- The Federal Circuit on Tuesday affirmed a Patent Trial and Appeals Board decision rejecting claims of an inventor's patent for a vending machine that prints and binds books on demand, saying the board did not err in relying on prior art with a disputed publication date.

A three judge panel said the board properly used the prior art references in invalidating the patent claims of Victor Manuel Celorio Garrido upon re-examination. The panel also affirmed that Garrido's allegations of misconduct against appellee Bob Holt were unsupported,...
