Possible $2B EU Penalty Looms Over Microsoft

Law360, New York (February 26, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The European Commission could fine Microsoft Corp. up to $2.2 billion Wednesday for allegedly failing to comply with a 2004 court order regarding fees for licensing on operating-system software, according to reports.

Bloomberg News, citing unnamed sources, said the fine was imminent. In a January filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Microsoft said that the fine it could be facing as of October 2007 was €1.5 billion ($2.2 billion).
