UPMC, Highmark Agree To Drop Antitrust Dispute

Law360, New York (October 23, 2013, 5:45 PM EDT) -- The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Highmark Inc. have reached a tentative agreement to put an end to a long-running antitrust dispute between UPMC and a rival hospital system the insurer recently acquired, the companies said Wednesday.

The deal would require both sides to withdraw their respective antitrust claims once the agreement has been finalized and West Penn Allegheny Health System Inc., which originally brought the suit and has since become a Highmark affiliate, must sign off on the dismissal, according to Highmark spokesman Michael...
