Taiwan Fines Samsung For Hiring Writers To Bash HTC

Law360, New York (October 24, 2013, 1:27 PM EDT) -- Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.'s Taiwan unit was fined 10 million New Taiwan dollars ($340,000) by the country's Fair Trade Commission for allegedly hiring bloggers and students to post online comments lauding the company's products and denigrating those made by its Taiwan-based competitor, HTC Corp., the commission announced on Thursday.

An FTC investigation revealed that Samsung Electronics Taiwan Co. Ltd. hired two marketing firms, OpenTide Taiwan Co. Ltd. and Sales and Profit International Co. Ltd., to launch a deceptive attack ad campaign against HTC by paying writers...
