Kroes Knocks Franco-German Energy Proposal

Law360, New York (February 27, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- EU Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes shot down a proposal by eight countries for a watered-down divestiture plan in the energy market, saying Wednesday that anything less than total unbundling of producers and distribution networks would be insufficient to revitalize competition.

Only the separation of energy producers from distribution networks would allow the energy markets to be deregulated and remain competitive, Kroes said at a meeting in Brussels.
