Japanese Gas Co. Pays $400M For Activated Carbon Maker

Law360, New York (October 29, 2013, 2:21 PM EDT) -- Japan-based Osaka Gas Chemicals Co. Ltd. has agreed to acquire Jacobi Carbons AB for $400 million in a move to accelerate the company’s growth, expand its geographical reach and enhance its research and development capabilities, the company announced Tuesday.

The company, owned by Osaka Gas Co. Ltd., said it entered into the agreement with Jacobi Carbon’s holding company, AddSorb Holding AB. Sweden-based Jacobi Carbons is the largest manufacturer and distributor of coconut-shell activated carbon in the world, according to Osaka Gas Chemicals.
