US To Sharply Curb Funding Of Overseas Coal Projects

Law360, New York (October 29, 2013, 5:57 PM EDT) -- The Obama administration on Tuesday announced plans to bolster its support for clean energy projects around the globe by ending U.S. backing of multilateral development bank funding for new overseas coal projects except in very limited circumstances.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury said this latest step is building upon efforts first launched in 2009 when it issued guidance to help curb funding of coal plants at multilateral development banks, setting a policy for the U.S. not to support coal projects except in rare instances....
