Allina Says Data Breach Affected Thousands Of Patients

Law360, New York (October 30, 2013, 1:42 PM EDT) -- Allina Health has notified more than 3,800 patients that their electronic medical records were improperly viewed by a medical assistant, who has since been fired, the company said Friday.

The first unauthorized access by the employee was confirmed on Sept. 18, Allina said. It said it had determined that the employee had accessed the records of patients between February 2010 and September without authorization. The employee had access to demographic information, clinical information, health insurance information and the last four digits of Social Security numbers....
