Sony Beats Indian Clothes Maker's Bid For 'ABT Sony' Mark

Law360, New York (October 30, 2013, 7:42 PM EDT) -- India's trademark appeals body sided with Sony Corp. on Friday, refusing to register the trademark “abt Sony,” which an Indian clothing manufacturer called AB Textiles wanted to use to sell underwear.

The Intellectual Property Appellate Board on Oct. 25 ruled in favor of an appeal from Sony and overturned a decision by a trademark registrar that allowed AB Textiles to register the mark, calling the ruling “totally misconceived, untenable and bad law.”
