Maine Unemployment Tax Rate To Drop To '09 Levels

Law360, New York (November 1, 2013, 4:55 PM EDT) -- Behind the strength of an improving economy, Maine's unemployment insurance tax rate is set to drop to its lowest level since 2009, saving businesses in the state an estimated $30 million, the Maine Department of Labor said Thursday.

Maine's job market “stabilized” in 2011 and has sustained modest growth in 2012 and 2013, the Department of Labor said. The state's unemployment rate has been falling steadily since spiking to a high of 8.4 percent in early 2010 following the global recession.
