Townships Aren't Judicial Districts Under FDCPA: 7th Circ.

Law360, Chicago (October 31, 2013, 8:49 PM EDT) -- The Seventh Circuit on Thursday upheld the dismissal of an Indiana man’s suit seeking damages from a medical debt collector, finding the state’s township courts didn't constitute judicial districts for the purposes of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

In a 2-to-1 vote, the appeals panel rejected plaintiff Mark Suesz’s position that Med-1 Solutions LLC had violated the FDCPA’s venue provision by filing a collection action against him in a small claims court in a neighboring county to where he lived and in a separate township...
