Senators Eye New Demand-Letter Rules To Fight Patent Trolls

Law360, New York (November 7, 2013, 3:50 PM EST) -- Lawmakers said at a Senate hearing Thursday that they were considering imposing new rules on what must be included in patent licensing demand letters in order to prevent so-called patent trolls from "scamming" small businesses by making vague or baseless allegations of infringement.

The Senate Commerce Committee heard testimony from business leaders and state officials who said small companies are being overwhelmed by letters from patent assertion entities claiming they infringe patents.
