How Dechert, Simpson Won The FTC's Blessing In $1B Deal

Law360, New York (November 1, 2013, 8:02 PM EDT) -- When Office Depot Inc. and OfficeMax Inc. announced their $1.2 billion merger, they faced the specter of the Federal Trade Commission's successful challenge of Staples Inc.'s 1997 bid for Office Depot. But that hurdle ultimately provided the solution for the companies' antitrust team from Dechert LLP and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, allowing them to preempt the watchdog's concerns.
