Watchdog Seeks IRS Probe Of Koch Brothers Group

Law360, New York (November 6, 2013, 6:43 PM EST) -- A campaign finance watchdog group filed a complaint Tuesday with the Internal Revenue Service that seeks an investigation into an organization linked to the Koch Brothers that provided $235 million in grants to conservative groups last year.

The complaint, filed by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, or CREW, challenges the tax-exempt status of Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce Inc. under 501(c)(6), a provision in the Internal Revenue Code that exempts for chambers of commerce, trade groups and so-called “business leagues.” CREW claims Freedom Partners...
