Nation's 4th-Largest Tax Prep Service Shuttered For Fraud

Law360, New York (November 7, 2013, 7:17 PM EST) -- An Ohio federal court Wednesday permanently halted the franchising power and tax return preparations of the fourth-largest tax preparation company in the United States after a nine-day trial revealed rampant fraud and abuse. 

The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio ruled that Instant Tax Service and founder Fesum Ogbazion preyed on low-income tax filers by falsifying W-2s, preparing and filing premature tax returns using only paycheck stubs, claiming improper education credits and using a related company, Tax Tree, to engage in loan fraud,...
