Regulators Mull Guide For Handling Unclaimed Death Benefits

Law360, New York (November 12, 2013, 3:30 PM EST) -- State insurance commissioners on Friday asked for input on whether they should consider setting guidelines for handling unclaimed death benefits, heeding calls for uniformity from insurers that have paid steep sums to settle with regulators over their use of the Social Security Administration's Death Master File database.

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners' life insurance and annuities committee voted to take comments from insurance regulators and other interested parties on whether the committee should study the need for recommendations to promote consistent handling of unclaimed death...
