FirstEnergy To Put $2.8B Toward Grid Upgrades In Ohio

Law360, New York (November 12, 2013, 4:56 PM EST) -- East coast utility FirstEnergy Corp will invest $2.8 million over four years to upgrade and expand its grid around Ohio and neighboring states in preparation for greater energy demand, the company said Tuesday.

Given the national trend, Ohio's shale gas regions will attract resource extractors, who will need both incoming and outgoing powerlines. Additionally, upgrading the existing infrastructure will improve service for customers, reduce the effect of blackouts and storms, and lower total maintenance costs, FirstEnergy said.
