Noble Challenges Nigerian Laws That Call Rigs Boats

Law360, New York (March 3, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- International drilling company Noble Corp. is challenging the Nigerian government's reclassification of drilling rigs as ships, a move that would appropriate 2% of Noble's revenue in the country.

In its annual 10-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Noble said its Nigerian subsidiary had received letters from a Nigerian government agency seeking to collect a 2% surcharge on contracts performed by vessels engaged in the Nigerian coastal shipping trade.
