ACA Policy Cancellation Fix Won't Break Bank For Insurers

Law360, New York (November 14, 2013, 7:13 PM EST) -- Despite its protests, the health insurance industry won’t lose its shirt under the Obama administration’s decision to allow the renewal of policies being canceled under the Affordable Care Act, according to experts who say the law’s safeguards against insurer losses will come to the rescue if online marketplaces end up with fewer healthy customers.

Industry reaction to the president’s move was fast and furious, with trade group America’s Health Insurance Plans warning that “changing the rules ... could destabilize the market and result in higher premiums...
