SEC Whistleblower Program Gaining Momentum

Law360, New York (November 18, 2013, 9:55 PM EST) -- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's third annual report on the Dodd-Frank whistleblower program shows the number of tips received by the agency increased in 2013, and lawyers say the SEC is poised to attract more tipsters and dole out more big-dollar awards in 2014.

The SEC staff report to Congress, issued Friday, said that 3,238 whistleblower tips were received in fiscal 2013, up from 3,001 in 2012 and just 334 in the last four months of 2011, when the Dodd-Frank whistleblower program got underway. The...
