Cliffs Shelves $3.3B Ontario Chromite Mining Project

Law360, New York (November 21, 2013, 8:25 PM EST) -- After years of development, U.S. mining company Cliffs Natural Resources said Wednesday it is suspending a chromite mining project in northern Ontario’s “Ring of Fire” region estimated to cost $3.3 billion to fully develop, citing infrastructure concerns. 

Cliffs, based in Cleveland, said it was abandoning the mining project by the end of the fourth quarter of 2013 after it was unable to determine a timeline and further risks associated with developing the necessary infrastructure to support the mine.
