Canada OKs Production Of Genetically Modified Salmon

Law360, New York (November 25, 2013, 7:48 PM EST) -- Canada's environmental regulator on Saturday allowed AquaBounty Technologies Inc. to begin commercially producing genetically modified salmon, though the country, like the U.S., has not approved the fish for human consumption.

The clearance from Environment Canada moves the Massachusetts-based company one step closer to its goal of selling the fish to consumers. Though the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not yet approved the product for that purpose, it found in December that it was as safe to eat as other salmon.
