Watchdog: IRS Personal Cellphones Subject To Data Theft

Law360, New York (November 26, 2013, 6:50 PM EST) -- The IRS will trade security for convenience if it adopts a program that would let workers access taxpayer information on their personal cellphones, according a watchdog agency report released Tuesday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration report says the IRS is toying with the idea of letting employees access work email and other information on their personal smartphones. The plan, called Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), would jeopardize the security of taxpayer information, the report said.
