House Subpoenas Exec For Hearing On Beef Recall

Law360 (March 5, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee has subpoenaed the president of Hallmark/Westland Meat Co. to testify about how millions of pounds of tainted beef reached the market, countering the executive's refusal to show up to a previous hearing.

Members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee's subcommittee on oversight and investigations voted unanimously on Wednesday to subpoena Steve E. Mendell, president of the company that recalled a record-setting 143 million pounds of beef on Feb. 17.
