EU To Lobby Singapore, Australia On Tax Evasion Rules

Law360, New York (November 27, 2013, 2:32 PM EST) -- Days before the largest international trade summit in two years is set to begin in Bali, Indonesia,  European Union Tax Commissioner  Algirdas Semeta  will lobby officials in Singapore and Australia for stricter controls on tax evasion, the EU said Wednesday.

Semeta has been pushing EU members to enact tougher regulations before the end of the year as part of a greater legislative mission to clamp down on international tax havens. Singapore, which agreed to a free trade pact with the EU earlier this year, and Australia, which will head the G20 in 2014, are two of Europe's largest trading partners....
