Medicare Finalizes 2014 Pay For Docs, Hospitals

Law360, New York (November 27, 2013, 7:15 PM EST) -- Federal regulators on Wednesday finalized a proposal to streamline Medicare billing codes for outpatient care at clinics but backed off similar plans for hospital emergency departments, saying they will re-evaluate the idea because of concerns about shortchanging providers.

The about-face was included in a 1,281-page final rule on outpatient reimbursement, which was released alongside a 1,369-page final rule for Medicare’s physician fee schedule.
