Senators Move To Thwart Media Ownership Rules

Law360, New York (March 5, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Democratic senator took formal steps on Wednesday to block the Federal Communications Commission's contentious new media cross-ownership rules that would open the door to widespread consolidation.

Following up on his promises to oppose the changes, Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) and 13 co-sponsors introduced a rarely used tool known as a “resolution of disapproval,” which, if successful, could thwart the rules that the FCC narrowly approved in December.
